Description

This Air Fryer Chicken Crispanada recipe features tender shredded chicken mixed with cheeses, cream cheese, salsa, and taco seasoning, all wrapped in flour tortillas and air fried to crispy perfection. These Tex-Mex inspired main course or appetizer bites are quick to prepare, deliciously cheesy, and perfect for a satisfying meal or snack. Serve warm with sour cream, guacamole, or extra salsa for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup salsa or enchilada sauce
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Assembly

  • 68 small flour tortillas
  • Olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese, softened cream cheese, salsa or enchilada sauce, taco seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated and evenly distributed.
  2. Assemble the crispanadas: Lay out each tortilla flat and spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of the filling into the center. Fold the tortilla over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal the filling inside, using a fork to crimp the edges if needed to ensure they hold during cooking.
  3. Preheat and prepare for air frying: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray both sides of the sealed crispanadas with olive oil spray to help achieve a golden, crispy exterior.
  4. Air fry the crispanadas: Place the prepared crispanadas in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time, until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  5. Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve warm with sides such as sour cream, guacamole, or extra salsa for dipping, enhancing the Tex-Mex flavors.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for a quick and convenient option.
  • Add chopped jalapeños or diced onions to the filling for an extra kick of flavor.
  • These crispanadas freeze well before air frying; simply add 2–3 more minutes to the cooking time when cooking from frozen.
