Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Marinade
- 1 ½ pounds sirloin steak, cut into 1½-inch cubes
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional, for heat)
Garnish and Skewers
- 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and Sriracha if using to create the marinade.
- Marinate the Steak: Add the sirloin cubes to the marinade and toss well to coat all pieces evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for maximum flavor and tenderness.
- Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to ensure a good sear on the steak skewers.
- Assemble the Skewers: Thread the marinated steak cubes onto the soaked wooden skewers, leaving a little space between pieces for even cooking.
- Grill the Skewers: Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, grilling each side until the steak reaches your preferred doneness levels and gets a nice char.
- Rest the Steak: Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes to let the juices redistribute.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the grilled skewers with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving for an extra layer of flavor and crunch.
Notes
- For the most tender results, use sirloin or ribeye steak.
- These skewers pair wonderfully with steamed rice, grilled vegetables, or a crisp cucumber salad.
- If you don’t have a grill, broil the skewers in the oven as an alternative cooking method.
