Description

These Asian Garlic Steak Skewers feature tender sirloin marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger, then grilled to perfection. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or weekend barbecue, these skewers offer a delicious balance of sweet, savory, and spicy notes with a satisfying smoky char.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Marinade

  • 1 ½ pounds sirloin steak, cut into -inch cubes
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional, for heat)

Garnish and Skewers

  • 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and Sriracha if using to create the marinade.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Add the sirloin cubes to the marinade and toss well to coat all pieces evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for maximum flavor and tenderness.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to ensure a good sear on the steak skewers.
  4. Assemble the Skewers: Thread the marinated steak cubes onto the soaked wooden skewers, leaving a little space between pieces for even cooking.
  5. Grill the Skewers: Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, grilling each side until the steak reaches your preferred doneness levels and gets a nice char.
  6. Rest the Steak: Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes to let the juices redistribute.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the grilled skewers with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving for an extra layer of flavor and crunch.

Notes

  • For the most tender results, use sirloin or ribeye steak.
  • These skewers pair wonderfully with steamed rice, grilled vegetables, or a crisp cucumber salad.
  • If you don’t have a grill, broil the skewers in the oven as an alternative cooking method.
