Description

This authentic beef and broccoli stir fry recipe is a classic Chinese dish that is quick and easy to make at home. Tender slices of beef, crisp broccoli, and a savory sauce come together in a delicious stir fry that is perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Stir Fry:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

For the Sauce:

  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Sear the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add sliced beef in a single layer and sear for 1–2 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  3. Stir Fry: Add remaining oil to the skillet along with broccoli, garlic, and ginger, stir-frying for 3–4 minutes until broccoli is tender-crisp. Return beef to the skillet and pour sauce over the top. Toss to coat and cook for 1–2 more minutes until beef is cooked through and sauce has thickened.
  4. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra tenderness, marinate the beef in 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch for 20 minutes before cooking.
  • Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
