  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Sauce:

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (casings removed)
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • Garnish:

  • chopped fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook Spaghetti: Cook spaghetti in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet, cook Italian sausage, onion, and garlic. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Mix cooked spaghetti with half the sauce, Parmesan, and ricotta. Layer spaghetti, sauce, and mozzarella in a baking dish. Bake covered for 25 minutes, then uncovered for 10 minutes.
  5. Serve: Garnish with basil and serve warm.
