Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Additions:

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Gently fold dry ingredients into wet until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Bake: Divide batter among muffin cups, sprinkle with coarse sugar, and bake at 425°F for 5 minutes. Reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for 15-18 minutes more.
  6. Cool and serve: Let muffins cool in tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For extra-tall muffin tops, chill the filled tin in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes before baking.
  • You can customize with mini chocolate chips or a mix of chocolate chunks.
