Description

These Barbecue Sloppy Joes are a quick and hearty twist on a family favorite. Made with ground beef, onions, and peppers in a tangy barbecue sauce, they are perfect for a satisfying meal anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Additional:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional: sliced pickles or shredded cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add Vegetables: Add the chopped onion and diced green bell pepper, sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Mix in Sauces: Stir in the barbecue sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5–10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Assemble: Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and serve hot. Top with pickles or cheese if using.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Use spicy barbecue sauce for extra kick or add a pinch of chili flakes.
