These Beef Pasties are a delicious and hearty meal that is perfect for any occasion. Filled with a savory mixture of ground beef, vegetables, and flavorful seasonings, all encased in a flaky pastry crust, these pasties are a true comfort food classic. Easy to make and even easier to enjoy, they are sure to become a family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or finely diced beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup diced potatoes, peeled
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced rutabaga or turnip
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts or homemade pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the beef and onion and cook until browned. Add the potatoes, carrots, rutabaga, salt, pepper, thyme, garlic powder, allspice, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until vegetables are tender.
  3. Prepare the crust: Roll out the pie crusts and cut into circles. Place beef mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and seal the edges.
  4. Bake: Brush each pasty with beaten egg. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • These pasties can be frozen before or after baking—just reheat in the oven until warmed through.
  • For a richer flavor, try using leftover roast beef and gravy in place of ground beef.
  • Serve with ketchup, HP sauce, or a side salad.
