- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (for thickening)
For the Skewers:
- 1 1/2 lbs beef sirloin or flank steak, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
- Metal or soaked wooden skewers
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and black pepper. Simmer, then add the cornstarch slurry. Cook until slightly thickened. Cool.
- Marinate the Beef: Place beef cubes in a bowl, pour half of the teriyaki sauce over them, and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Grill the Skewers: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread beef onto skewers, grill for 8–10 minutes, turning and basting with reserved sauce.
- Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve with rice or veggies.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider grilling pineapple or bell pepper with the beef.
- Avoid overcooking the beef to retain its tenderness.
