Description

This classic Blackberry Cobbler recipe features a buttery, sweet batter topped with juicy blackberries, baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a warm dessert for any occasion, it combines simple ingredients to create a comforting, delightful treat that’s easy to make and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Butter and Sugar

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Batter

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk

Fruit

  • 2 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: Melt the butter in a microwavable dish until fully liquefied and smooth.
  2. Make Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with the self-rising flour. Whisk in the milk until the batter is smooth and fully incorporated. Pour the melted butter into the bowl and whisk everything together thoroughly.
  3. Prepare Baking Dish: Butter a baking dish to prevent sticking. Rinse the blackberries under cold water and pat them dry gently with a paper towel or clean cloth.
  4. Assemble Cobbler: Pour the batter evenly into the buttered baking dish. Distribute the blackberries evenly over the top of the batter. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of granulated sugar evenly over the blackberries.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 1 hour until the cobbler is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  6. Optional Sugar Sprinkle: If desired, sprinkle an additional teaspoon of sugar over the cobbler 10 minutes before the baking time is complete to add extra sweetness and a slight crunch.

Notes

  • Frozen blackberries can be used but do not thaw before use to prevent excess liquid.
  • Self-rising flour contains baking powder and salt, so additional leavening agents are unnecessary.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • For a tangier flavor, add a teaspoon of lemon zest to the batter.
