Description
Blackberry switchel is a refreshing and tangy beverage made with blackberries, apple cider vinegar, honey, ginger, lemon juice, and water. This fruity and slightly tart drink is perfect for hot summer days or as a revitalizing pick-me-up.
Ingredients
Scale
Blackberry Switchel:
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- juice of 1/2 lemon (about 1 tablespoon)
- 3 1/2 cups cold water
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Mash the Blackberries: In a bowl or small saucepan, mash the blackberries with a fork or muddler.
- Combine Ingredients: Stir in the grated ginger, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Let sit for 10–15 minutes to meld flavors or gently warm to help dissolve the honey, then strain through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher.
- Add Lemon and Water: Stir in the lemon juice, cold water, and a pinch of salt.
- Chill and Serve: Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. Stir well and serve over ice.
Notes
- For a fizzy version, replace some of the water with sparkling water just before serving.
- Adjust sweetness and acidity to taste.
- Switchel keeps well in the fridge for up to 1 week.
