  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Glaze:

  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup (optional for shine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
  2. Make the cake: Mix dry ingredients, cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla, alternate dry ingredients with milk, divide and bake.
  3. Prepare pastry cream: Heat milk, whisk sugar, yolks, cornstarch, combine, thicken, add butter and vanilla, chill.
  4. Create chocolate glaze: Melt chocolate, heat cream and corn syrup, pour over chocolate, stir until smooth.
  5. Assemble the pie: Layer cake, spread pastry cream, top with second cake layer, pour over glaze, chill before serving.
