For the Bulgogi Sauce:
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons grated Asian pear (or apple)
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and rice vinegar until the sugar dissolves.
- Stir in the grated pear, green onion, garlic, ginger, sesame seeds, and black pepper.
- Add 1 tablespoon of water to slightly thin the sauce if desired.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or saltiness to preference.
- Use immediately as a marinade for thinly sliced beef or as a dipping sauce, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add 1 teaspoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste) or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- Asian pear gives the most authentic flavor and natural tenderizing effect, but apple can be substituted.
