These Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy twist on a classic favorite. Made with ground chicken and a flavorful blend of Cajun seasonings, they are perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

Seasonings:

  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Sauce and Others:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. Saute Veggies: Add onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add Seasonings and Sauces: Season with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Adjust and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning. Spoon mixture onto toasted buns, top with green onions, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add shredded cheddar cheese on top before serving.
  • You can also make this recipe with ground turkey instead of chicken.
  • Adjust spice level by reducing or increasing cayenne pepper and hot sauce.
