Description

Indulge in the delightful combination of sweet caramel and tart apples with these scrumptious Caramel Apple Dumplings. A perfect dessert for fall or any time you’re craving a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dumplings:

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter (cut into 8 small pieces)

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare the crust: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper. Roll out the pie crust and cut it into 8 even squares.
  2. Prepare the apples: Cut each apple into 4 wedges.
  3. Make the cinnamon sugar mixture: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Assemble the dumplings: Place one apple wedge on each dough square, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture, and top each with a small piece of butter. Fold the dough over the apple wedge, pinching to seal and shape into a dumpling.
  5. Arrange and sauce: Arrange the dumplings in the prepared dish. In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until smooth and bubbly. Pour the warm caramel sauce over the dumplings.
  6. Bake and serve: Brush the tops with egg wash. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use crescent roll dough or puff pastry as an alternative to pie crust.
  • For extra indulgence, serve with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of additional caramel sauce.
