  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. Make the caramel: In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup unsalted butter, add brown sugar, and cook until smooth. Pour into the prepared pan.
  3. Arrange the apples: Place sliced apples on top of the caramel in a circular pattern.
  4. Prepare the batter: Combine flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla, then mix in dry ingredients and milk.
  5. Bake: Spread batter over apples and caramel. Bake for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Finish: Cool for 10 minutes, invert the cake onto a plate, and remove the pan and parchment. Serve warm or at room temperature.
