Main Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
Spices:
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Other:
- 1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (15 oz) cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Prepare the Base: Sauté onion in oil until soft. Add garlic, ginger, and cook.
- Add Spices: Stir in cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, paprika, and salt.
- Cook the Sauce: Add tomatoes, cook until thickened.
- Add Chickpeas: Mix in chickpeas, water, simmer until tender.
- Finish: Stir in lemon juice, garnish with cilantro.
Notes
- Serve with basmati rice or naan.
- For a creamier version, add coconut milk or yogurt.
