These Cheeseburger Tater Tot Cups are a fun and delicious twist on a classic favorite. Crispy tater tots form a perfect crust, filled with savory seasoned ground beef and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for parties or family meals, they are easy to make and customizable with your favorite cheeseburger toppings.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Tater Tot Cups

  • 2 cups Frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded

Optional Toppings

  • Ketchup, for serving
  • Mustard, for serving
  • Pickles, sliced
  • Lettuce, shredded
  • Tomato, diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare muffin tin: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook ground beef and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and finely chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onions have softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  3. Season the beef mixture: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the cooked beef mixture. Cook for another 2 minutes to combine flavors, then remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Form the tater tot crust: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer in the bottom of each muffin cup. Use the back of a spoon to gently press and slightly mash the tots, creating a crust base.
  5. Bake tater tot crust: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake the tater tots for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Add beef and cheese: Remove the muffin tin from the oven. Evenly spoon the seasoned beef mixture on top of each crispy tater tot crust, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over each one.
  7. Melt the cheese: Return the muffin tin to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the cups to cool slightly before removing them from the muffin tin. Serve with your favorite cheeseburger toppings like ketchup, mustard, pickles, shredded lettuce, and diced tomato.

Notes

  • You can customize the seasonings to your taste by adding chili powder or smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
  • For a crispier crust, bake the tater tots a couple of minutes longer before adding the beef.
  • Use a non-stick spray or line the muffin cups with foil for easier removal.
  • These cups can be assembled in advance and baked just before serving for convenience.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
