Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1 small Onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Onion powder
- 1/2 tsp Paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Tater Tot Cups
- 2 cups Frozen tater tots
- 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
Optional Toppings
- Ketchup, for serving
- Mustard, for serving
- Pickles, sliced
- Lettuce, shredded
- Tomato, diced
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the tater tot cups.
- Cook the Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with the finely chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary to keep the mixture from being greasy.
- Season the Beef: Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the cooked beef and onion. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors meld. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Form the Tater Tot Crust: Place the frozen tater tots evenly at the bottom of each muffin cup in a single layer. Use the back of a spoon to gently press and slightly mash the tots down to create a compact crust base for your cups.
- Bake the Tater Tot Crust: Bake the muffin tin with the tater tots in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, forming a sturdy crust.
- Add Filling and Cheese: Remove the muffin tin from the oven and evenly spoon the seasoned beef mixture on top of each tater tot crust. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the beef layer.
- Finish Baking: Return the muffin tin to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and slightly golden on top.
- Serve: Allow the tater tot cups to cool for a few minutes before carefully removing them from the muffin tin. Serve warm with optional classic cheeseburger toppings such as ketchup, mustard, pickles, shredded lettuce, and diced tomato for a complete experience.
Notes
- Make sure to drain excess fat after browning the beef to prevent sogginess in the cups.
- You can swap cheddar cheese for any other favorite melting cheese like mozzarella or pepper jack.
- These tater tot cups can be made ahead and reheated gently in the oven to retain crispiness.
- Use fresh or frozen tater tots; adjust baking time slightly if using fresh for a crispier crust.
- Customize the spice level by adding chili powder or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
