Ingredients
Scale
Beef Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tbsp homemade blend
- ½ cup water
Burrito Assembly
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup salsa or pico de gallo
- 4 large flour tortillas (burrito size)
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)
Side
- 2 cups frozen French fries
Instructions
- Cook French Fries: Preheat your oven or air fryer according to package instructions. Cook the frozen French fries until golden brown and crispy, then set aside.
- Prepare the Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add the ground beef, cooking and breaking it apart until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Season the Beef: Stir in the taco seasoning and ½ cup water. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens and flavors meld.
- Warm the Tortillas: Slightly warm the flour tortillas to make rolling easier, either in a microwave for a few seconds or in a dry skillet over low heat.
- Assemble the Burritos: Lay each tortilla flat and layer with a portion of the seasoned beef, shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, a dollop of sour cream, salsa or pico de gallo, crispy fries, and cilantro if desired.
- Roll the Burritos: Fold the sides in and roll the tortilla tightly to enclose the filling.
- Toast the Burritos: For extra crispiness and warmth, toast each rolled burrito in a dry skillet or grill pan for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and slightly crispy.
- Serve: Serve the burritos warm with extra sour cream or salsa on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Add guacamole, jalapeños, or chopped lettuce to enhance flavor and texture.
- For variety, swap ground beef with shredded chicken or black beans for a different protein option.
- Use homemade taco seasoning to control salt and spice levels.
- Make sure to crisp the fries well to add a satisfying crunch inside the burrito.
