Description

Cherry Water Kefir is a refreshing and probiotic-rich fermented beverage made with water kefir grains, cherries, and a hint of sweetness. This easy-to-make drink is perfect for those looking to incorporate more gut-friendly probiotics into their diet.

Ingredients

Scale

Water Kefir Base:

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons water kefir grains
  • 2 tablespoons organic cane sugar

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup fresh or frozen cherries (pitted and halved)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Water Kefir Base: In a clean glass jar, dissolve the sugar in the water by stirring well. Add the water kefir grains to the sugar water.
  2. First Fermentation: Cover the jar with a breathable cloth or paper towel secured with a rubber band. Let it ferment at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours, away from direct sunlight.
  3. Second Fermentation: After the first fermentation, strain out the kefir grains and transfer the liquid into a clean bottle with a tight-sealing lid. Add the cherries and lemon juice (if using) to the bottle. Seal and let the mixture ferment a second time at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours to allow carbonation to build.
  4. Chill and Serve: Once fizzy to your liking, refrigerate the cherry water kefir to chill. Open carefully and enjoy cold.

Notes

  • Use flip-top bottles for better carbonation.
  • Always burp the bottles daily during the second fermentation to prevent overpressure.
  • You can substitute cherries with other berries or stone fruits.
