Description

Chicken Gloria is a deliciously rich and creamy baked chicken dish topped with mushrooms, a savory sauce, and gooey Muenster cheese. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 6 thin-cut pieces)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup dry sherry or white wine
  • 6 slices Muenster cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness if needed.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, coating both sides.
  3. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden (it won’t be fully cooked). Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 4–5 minutes until tender. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, and sherry or wine, mixing well. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Arrange the chicken in a 9×13-inch baking dish, pour the sauce and mushrooms over the top, and place one slice of Muenster cheese on each piece. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until chicken is fully cooked and cheese is melted and bubbling.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • Muenster cheese gives the dish its signature richness, but you can substitute with Swiss or provolone if needed.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles to soak up the sauce.
