- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel bits or soft caramels (melted with 2 tablespoons heavy cream)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- Combine: Gradually mix in dry ingredients, fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Layer and Bake: Spread half of the dough in the pan, pour caramel mixture, top with remaining dough, and bake for 30–35 minutes.
- Cool and Serve: Cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
- For easier spreading, lightly wet your hands or spatula when pressing dough over the caramel.
- You can use store-bought caramel sauce as a substitute for melted caramels.
