Ingredients
Scale
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Marinade
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Juice of 2 limes
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Main Ingredients
- 2 pounds salmon fillet (1 large fillet)
- 1 lime, cut into slices
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier. Arrange the lime slices evenly on the foil; these will add flavor and keep the salmon elevated.
- Make Rub and Marinade: In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to create the dry rub. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, lime juice from 2 limes, honey, and minced garlic to form the marinade.
- Season and Bake: Generously rub the salmon fillet on both sides with the spice mixture. Place the seasoned salmon on the bed of lime slices on the prepared baking sheet. Pour the honey-lime marinade evenly over the salmon. Fold the foil edges upwards to create a shallow well around the salmon to catch the marinade during baking.
- Broil and Serve: Bake the salmon for 15-20 minutes until it is mostly cooked through. Then switch your oven to broil and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the top of the salmon is slightly caramelized and the fish flakes easily. Remove from oven and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Using foil helps steam the salmon, keeping it moist while baking.
- The broiling step caramelizes the honey and spices, adding a nice texture and flavor contrast.
- Make sure the salmon is evenly coated in the marinade for balanced flavor.
- Adjust the chili powder amount to suit your preferred spice level.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and are great for salads or tacos.
