  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water

For Serving:

  • 8 small taco shells or tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream and lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil, if using. Sauté onion until softened, then add garlic. Cook until fragrant. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Season the Beef: Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add tomato sauce and beef broth. Simmer until thickened.
  3. Assemble Tacos: Warm taco shells, spoon beef mixture into shells, top with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, and sour cream. Serve with lime wedges.
