For the Ground Beef:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (optional)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
For Serving:
- 8 small taco shells or tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Sour cream and lime wedges for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil, if using. Sauté onion until softened, then add garlic. Cook until fragrant. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Season the Beef: Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add tomato sauce and beef broth. Simmer until thickened.
- Assemble Tacos: Warm taco shells, spoon beef mixture into shells, top with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, and sour cream. Serve with lime wedges.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add sliced jalapeños or salsa.
- Cooked beef can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
