Ingredients
Scale
Rice Dumplings
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (cooled)
- 1/2 pound ground pork or ground chicken
- 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil (for pan-frying)
Dipping Sauce
- Soy sauce, chili oil, or vinegar (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine ground pork or chicken, chopped green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, white pepper, and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated to create a flavorful meat mixture.
- Shape the dumplings: Take about one tablespoon of the meat mixture and form it into a small, compact ball. Firmly press the cooled cooked jasmine rice around the meatball, ensuring it is fully coated and tightly packed to hold shape during cooking. Repeat this process with all the meat mixture.
- Heat the pan and cook: Warm 2 tablespoons of neutral oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Carefully arrange the rice-coated dumplings in a single layer in the pan, ensuring they are not crowded.
- Pan-fry until crispy: Cook the dumplings for 3–4 minutes on the bottom side without moving them to develop a golden, crispy crust. Then gently flip each dumpling to brown the other sides evenly and continue cooking for a total of 6–8 minutes until the rice is crisp all around and the filling is thoroughly cooked.
- Serve: Remove the dumplings from the skillet and serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce such as soy sauce, chili oil, or vinegar for a delightful balance of flavors.
Notes
- Ensure the jasmine rice is fully cooled and slightly sticky for better adhesion around the filling.
- You can prepare these dumplings ahead of time and reheat them in a skillet or an air fryer to regain crispiness.
- Use a nonstick skillet to prevent sticking and make flipping easier.
