Ingredients
Puff Pastry:
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Vanilla Custard:
½ cup
Sliced Almonds:
¼ cup
Egg Wash:
1 egg, 1 tablespoon milk
Additional:
1 tablespoon granulated sugar, optional powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare puff pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly on a floured surface and cut into 4 equal squares.
- Add custard: Place a spoonful (about 2 tablespoons) of vanilla custard in the center of each square.
- Fold and seal: Fold each square diagonally into a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Prepare egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with milk to make an egg wash.
- Brush and sprinkle: Brush each pastry with the egg wash and sprinkle with sliced almonds and a bit of granulated sugar.
- Bake: Place on the baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Finish and serve: Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- You can use store-bought custard or make a simple pastry cream ahead of time.
