Ingredients
Scale
Cheesecake Filling
- 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 cup Strawberry Jam or Preserves
- Fresh Strawberries, diced (optional)
Wontons
- 20–24 pieces Wonton Wrappers
- Water, as needed for sealing the edges
For Frying
- Vegetable Oil, as needed for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and strawberry jam together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If using fresh strawberries, gently fold them in to incorporate evenly without breaking down the fruit.
- Fill the Wontons: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean, flat surface. Place approximately one spoonful of the cheesecake filling in the center of each wrapper, being careful not to overfill.
- Seal the Wontons: Moisten the edges of the wonton wrappers with a bit of water using your fingertip. Fold each wrapper into a triangle over the filling, then press firmly around the edges to seal and prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep fryer or a large, heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the precise temperature for even frying and optimal crispiness.
- Fry the Wontons: Carefully place the wontons in the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes or until the wontons turn a golden brown color and are crispy.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the fried wonton bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm with extra strawberry jam or topped with whipped cream for added indulgence.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature stays steady to avoid greasy wontons.
- Do not overfill the wontons to prevent bursting during frying.
- Fresh strawberries are optional but add a nice texture contrast.
- For a variation, try adding a hint of lemon zest to the filling for brightness.
- Use cream cheese at room temperature for easier mixing.
