Cake:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
- 1 can (12 oz) Dr Pepper Cherry soda
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup Dr Pepper Cherry soda
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the cake batter: In a large bowl, mix chocolate cake mix, Dr Pepper Cherry soda, oil, and eggs. Fold in cherry pie filling. Pour into pan and bake for 35-40 minutes.
- Make the frosting: Melt butter, add cocoa powder and soda. Boil, then whisk in sugar and vanilla. Pour over cake.
- Cool and serve: Let the cake cool before slicing.
