Ingredients
Scale
Pudding Mixture
- 1 package (3.9 oz.) vanilla instant pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 oz.) Cool Whip, thawed
Layering and Garnish
- 1 package Oreo cookies, finely crushed with filling removed
- Food coloring (various colors, for pudding and coconut)
- Shredded coconut
- Candy eggs
- Peeps
Instructions
- Prepare Pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the vanilla instant pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes to thicken and set properly.
- Color the Pudding: Divide the prepared pudding evenly between two separate bowls. Add different food coloring to each bowl to achieve your desired colors, such as purple in one and pink in the other.
- Fold in Cool Whip: Gently fold the thawed Cool Whip into each bowl of colored pudding to create a light and fluffy texture.
- Layer the Cups: Place one tablespoon of finely crushed Oreo cookies at the bottom of each mason jar or serving cup as the base layer.
- Add Colored Pudding: Spoon a layer of one of the colored pudding mixtures on top of the Oreo crumbs in each cup.
- Repeat Layers: Alternate layers of crushed Oreo cookies and colored puddings, building up the dessert and ending with a top layer of crushed Oreo cookies.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled dirt cups for at least 1 hour to allow the layers to set and chill completely.
- Color the Coconut: Put shredded coconut into a container with a lid. Add a few drops of food coloring and a little water, then shake well until the coconut is evenly colored.
- Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the colored shredded coconut over the top of each dirt cup. Decorate with candy eggs and Peeps for a festive finishing touch.
Notes
- To remove the filling from Oreo cookies easily, twist the cookies apart and scrape off the cream before crushing.
- You can use as many colors of pudding as you like by dividing the pudding into more bowls and adding different food dye.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute Cool Whip with a non-dairy whipped topping and use a suitable pudding mix.
- These dirt cups can be made a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator to save time.
- Be gentle when folding in the Cool Whip to avoid deflating the light texture.
