Ingredients
Scale
For the steak:
- 1 lb sirloin or ribeye steak (cut into bite-sized cubes)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
For the fried rice:
- 3 cups cooked and chilled white rice
- 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (thawed)
- 2 green onions (chopped)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- Optional: extra soy sauce or yum yum sauce for serving
Instructions
- Make the fried rice: Heat sesame oil and butter in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add peas and carrots and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened. Push the veggies to one side and scramble the eggs on the other side until just set. Mix everything together. Add the rice and soy sauce. Stir-fry for 4–5 minutes until the rice is hot and slightly crisp. Stir in green onions and remove from heat. Cover to keep warm.
- Cook the steak: Season the steak cubes with salt and pepper. Heat sesame oil in a hot skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add steak and sear for 1–2 minutes per side until browned. Add garlic, soy sauce, and butter during the last minute of cooking and toss to coat.
Notes
- Use day-old rice for the best texture.
- Add zucchini, onion, or mushrooms to mimic restaurant-style hibachi.
- Cook in batches if needed to avoid steaming the steak.
