Description

Delight in these easy homemade churros with a rich, creamy chocolate sauce. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, and perfectly coated in cinnamon sugar, these classic Spanish fried treats are a sweet indulgence loved by all.

Ingredients

Scale

Churros

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Chocolate Sauce

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in the all-purpose flour quickly until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Heat oil for frying: In a large deep skillet or saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the churros while frying.
  3. Pipe the churros: Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe strips of dough, about 4 to 6 inches in length, directly into the hot oil. Cut the dough with scissors as needed.
  4. Fry until golden: Fry a few churros at a time for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
  5. Coat with cinnamon sugar: Mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar with ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. While the churros are still warm, roll them thoroughly in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
  6. Make the chocolate sauce: Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and butter until the sauce is smooth and glossy.
  7. Serve: Serve the warm churros alongside the rich chocolate sauce for dipping, enjoying immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • To achieve extra crispy churros, fry them in small batches to keep the oil temperature steady.
  • The chocolate sauce can be prepared ahead of time and gently reheated before serving.
  • Use a large star piping tip to get the classic ridged texture on the churros.
