Description

Easy Sticky Buns are a delightful treat made with refrigerated crescent roll dough, layered with a rich brown sugar and butter glaze, cinnamon, and optional pecans. They bake to a golden brown, sticky, and sweet finish perfect for breakfast or dessert. Quick to prepare and irresistibly flavorful, these buns combine the convenience of crescent dough with classic sticky bun flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Topping

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup or honey
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Dough and Filling

  • 1 package (16 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough or puff pastry
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or 8×8-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Sticky Topping: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Stir while melting until mixture is smooth and well blended. Immediately pour this sticky glaze into the bottom of the prepared pan. If using, sprinkle chopped pecans evenly on top of the glaze.
  3. Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough into a rectangle, then press the seams firmly together to create one large sheet. Brush the dough evenly with melted butter to keep it moist and add flavor.
  4. Add Filling and Roll: Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough. Starting from the long side, roll the dough up tightly into a log. Use a sharp knife to cut the rolled dough into 8 equal slices.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Arrange the rolls cut-side down over the sticky topping in the pan, leaving little to no gaps between rolls to help them rise and stick together. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and puffed up.
  6. Invert and Serve: After baking, let the buns rest in the pan for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Then carefully invert the pan onto a serving plate so the sticky glaze and nuts are on top. Serve the sticky buns warm for the best taste.

Notes

  • Add raisins or substitute pecans with walnuts for a different texture and flavor.
  • These sticky buns are best enjoyed fresh the day they are made for optimal softness and stickiness.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave to regain warmth and softness.
