Description

This Easy Tuna Noodle Casserole is a comforting and classic weeknight dish featuring tender egg noodles, flaky tuna, creamy mushroom soup, and melted cheddar cheese topped with a crispy buttery breadcrumb crust. Ready in just 35 minutes, it’s perfect for a quick and satisfying family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 12 oz egg noodles

Tuna Mixture

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Topping

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Noodles: Boil the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set them aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, cream of mushroom soup, milk, frozen peas, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Combine Noodles: Add the cooked egg noodles into the tuna mixture and gently toss everything together until noodles are evenly coated with the creamy mixture.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly for uniform baking.
  6. Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter until all crumbs are coated. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the breadcrumb topping turns a golden brown color.
  8. Rest and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes to set. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • Feel free to substitute frozen peas with mixed vegetables for added variety.
  • If you prefer a lighter dish, use reduced-fat sour cream and cheese.
  • This casserole can be prepared in advance and refrigerated before baking; just increase baking time slightly if baking from cold.
