Description

Indulge in the savory goodness of French Onion Chicken Meatballs, a delightful fusion of classic French onion flavors and tender chicken meatballs, baked to perfection with a gooey cheese topping. Serve over your favorite starch for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Onion Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Prepare the Meatballs: Mix ground chicken, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into meatballs and sear in a skillet.
  3. Caramelize the Onions: Cook sliced onions in butter until caramelized. Add thyme and flour, then wine and broth.
  4. Combine and Bake: Place meatballs back in the skillet, top with onions, sauce, and cheese. Bake until meatballs are cooked through and cheese is melted.
  5. Serve: Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
  • Ground turkey can be used instead of chicken.
  • Swiss cheese can substitute Gruyère.
