Description

This French Onion Dip is a classic party favorite with a rich, caramelized onion flavor. Creamy and savory, it’s perfect for dipping with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar

Dip Base:

  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: In a medium skillet over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes until onions are soft and golden brown. Let cool.
  2. Prepare Dip Base: In a bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in caramelized onions. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Serve: Garnish with chives. Serve chilled with chips or vegetables.
