Description

A hearty and flavorful dish combining fried cabbage with succulent shrimp and savory sausage. This Southern-inspired skillet meal is packed with delicious ingredients and spices, making it a satisfying main course option.

Ingredients

Olive Oil:

1 tbsp

Smoked Sausage (sliced):

12 oz

Large Shrimp (peeled and deveined):

1/2 lb

Butter:

1 tbsp

Small Onion (diced):

1

Cloves Garlic (minced):

3

Medium Head Green Cabbage (cored and sliced):

1

Smoked Paprika:

1 tsp

Onion Powder:

1/2 tsp

Garlic Powder:

1/2 tsp

Salt and Black Pepper:

to taste

Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (optional):

1/4 tsp

Chopped Fresh Parsley for Garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for 4–5 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the diced onion for 2–3 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the cabbage and season with smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  3. Cook the cabbage, stirring frequently, for 10–12 minutes or until it becomes tender and slightly caramelized. Push the cabbage to one side of the skillet and add the shrimp. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through. Return the sausage to the pan and toss everything together to combine and heat through.
  4. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, deglaze the pan with a splash of chicken broth or white wine after cooking the sausage.
  • This dish pairs well with rice or cornbread, or can be served on its own for a low-carb meal.
