Description

Delight your morning with this easy German Pancakes recipe. Also known as Dutch babies, these puffy oven-baked pancakes are a treat with toppings like powdered sugar, berries, or maple syrup.

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Toppings:

  • powdered sugar
  • fresh berries
  • maple syrup
  • lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Place a 9×13-inch baking dish or a 10-inch oven-safe skillet in the oven to heat.
  2. Mix the batter: In a blender or mixing bowl, combine eggs, flour, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend or whisk until smooth and frothy.
  3. Prepare the dish: Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven and add the butter, swirling to coat the bottom and sides as it melts.
  4. Bake the pancake: Immediately pour the batter into the buttered dish and return it to the oven. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pancake is puffed and golden brown around the edges.
  5. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • German pancakes will deflate slightly after coming out of the oven—that’s normal!
  • Use room temperature eggs and milk for the best puff.
  • You can also bake this in smaller ramekins for individual servings.
