Description

This Ground Beef and Baked Bean Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for family dinners. Ground beef is simmered with savory pork and beans, enhanced by a sweet and tangy sauce with ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Topped with crispy precooked bacon and baked until bubbly, this casserole offers a delicious balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¼ cup dried minced onion flakes
  • 2 (15-oz) cans Pork & Beans
  • 6 Tbsp ketchup
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 5 slices precooked bacon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set it aside.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef for about 10 minutes until it is browned and fully cooked. Use a fork or spatula to break the meat into smaller pieces as it cooks, ensuring even browning.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Transfer the cooked beef to a large bowl and combine it with the dried minced onion flakes, pork and beans (including the sauce), ketchup, light brown sugar, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Assemble Casserole: Pour the beef and bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Arrange the 5 slices of precooked bacon evenly on top of the mixture to add a smoky flavor and crispy texture.
  5. Bake: Cover the casserole dish with a lid or aluminum foil to keep the moisture in. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the casserole becomes thick and bubbly, indicating that it is heated through and flavors have melded.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can use smoked paprika or a splash of Worcestershire sauce in the beef mixture.
  • Using precooked bacon saves time and ensures the bacon crisps nicely without overcooking the beans or beef.
  • This casserole pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
  • You can substitute pork & beans with baked beans if preferred, but the dish will be slightly sweeter.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated thoroughly before serving.
