Description

These Gruyère Cheeseburgers offer a gourmet twist on the classic beef burger, featuring juicy patties seasoned with Worcestershire sauce and garlic, topped with melted Gruyère cheese. Toasted buns add a satisfying crunch, and optional toppings like caramelized onions and Dijon mustard enhance the rich, savory flavors perfect for a hearty main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Gruyère cheese
  • 4 burger buns (toasted)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter (for toasting buns)

Optional Toppings

  • Caramelized onions
  • Dijon mustard
  • Arugula
  • Sliced tomato
  • Pickles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, each slightly wider than the buns. Press a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
  2. Heat the Grill or Skillet: Preheat your grill or a heavy skillet over medium-high heat to ensure a good sear and proper cooking temperature.
  3. Cook the Patties: Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or adjust time to your preferred level. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Gruyère cheese on each patty and cover briefly to allow the cheese to melt perfectly.
  4. Toast the Buns: While the patties cook, lightly butter the burger buns and toast them until golden and crisp, either on the grill or in a separate pan.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom halves of the toasted buns, place the cheeseburgers. Add any optional toppings such as caramelized onions, Dijon mustard, arugula, sliced tomato, or pickles to elevate the flavors. Finish with the top buns.
  6. Serve: Serve the assembled burgers immediately alongside your choice of fries, chips, or a refreshing green salad for a complete meal experience.

Notes

  • Caramelized onions pair especially well with the nutty flavor of Gruyère cheese.
  • For an extra zing, add a smear of garlic aioli or Dijon mustard to the buns.
  • Make sure not to overmix the beef to keep patties tender and juicy.
  • Pressing an indent in the patties prevents them from puffing and helps them cook evenly.
  • Cook burgers to your desired level of doneness, checking with a meat thermometer if necessary.
