Description

This Hearty Marinara Sauce recipe is a classic Italian tomato sauce that is easy to make and full of flavor. Perfect for serving over pasta or using in your favorite Italian recipes.


Ingredients

Vegetables:

  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and finely grated
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced

Sauce Base:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

Seasonings:

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Garnish (optional):

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or basil

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Cook the vegetables: Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Cook for 5-6 minutes until softened.
  3. Add seasonings: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
  4. Simmer: Stir in sugar, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 25-30 minutes until thickened.
  5. Adjust seasoning: Taste and adjust seasonings. Stir in fresh parsley or basil before serving if desired.
  6. Serve: Use over pasta, in lasagna, or as a dipping sauce.
