Dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg

For Brushing:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Warm the Milk: In a small saucepan, warm the milk until it’s about 110°F (warm but not hot).
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, softened butter, vegetable oil, and egg. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead and Rise: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead for 5-7 minutes. Let it rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Shape and Bake: Divide dough, shape into balls, place in a baking dish. Let rise again for 30-40 minutes. Bake at 375°F for 15-18 minutes until golden. Brush with melted butter.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the buttered tops.
  • These rolls can be made ahead and frozen before baking; thaw and let rise before baking as usual.
