Sauce Base:
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Garnish:
- Fresh chopped basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large pot. Sauté onion until softened. Add garlic, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook until tender.
- Prepare Sauce: Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, herbs, seasonings, and optional ingredients. Simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Blend: Use an immersion blender to puree the sauce until smooth.
- Adjust and Serve: Adjust seasoning to taste. Serve warm over pasta or as a pizza sauce. Garnish with fresh herbs.
