Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Marinade
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small yellow onion, sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Oils and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 2 green onions, sliced, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate the beef: In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderize the meat.
- Cook the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches to avoid overcrowding and sear each piece until browned, approximately 1–2 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-fry the vegetables: Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the same pan. Stir-fry the sliced red and green bell peppers, yellow onion, and broccoli florets for 3–4 minutes until they are just tender but still crisp.
- Add aromatics: Mix in minced garlic, freshly grated ginger, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for an additional 30 seconds to release their fragrant flavors.
- Combine beef and veggies: Return the cooked beef to the pan and toss everything together to combine the flavors evenly.
- Finish with sesame oil: Drizzle sesame oil over the stir-fry, stirring well to coat all ingredients. Cook for another minute until the dish is heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sliced green onions and optional sesame seeds on top before serving. Enjoy the stir fry hot, ideally over steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Serve over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
- Substitute beef with chicken or tofu for a different protein option.
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and ensure all other sauces used are gluten-free.
