Description

This homemade peanut butter recipe is a simple and delicious way to enjoy a fresh, natural nut butter without any additives. Made with dry roasted peanuts, and optionally enhanced with a bit of peanut oil, salt, and sweetener, it offers creamy or crunchy textures depending on your preference. Perfect as a spread or an ingredient in various dishes, this vegan-friendly recipe is quick to prepare in just 10 minutes using a food processor.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dry roasted peanuts (unsalted or lightly salted)
  • 12 tablespoons peanut oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 12 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peanuts: Place the dry roasted peanuts in a food processor. Blend for 1–2 minutes until the peanuts are crumbly.
  2. Blend to Peanut Butter: Scrape down the sides of the processor bowl, then continue blending. The peanuts will transition through different textures — from crumbs to a thick paste, and finally to a smooth butter. This will take about 4–6 minutes in total.
  3. Adjust Consistency: If the peanut butter is too thick, add peanut oil one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Season and Sweeten: Add salt and the optional honey or maple syrup, then blend briefly again to combine all flavors evenly.
  5. Store: Transfer the peanut butter to a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store it in the refrigerator where it will keep fresh for up to 3 weeks.

Notes

  • For crunchy peanut butter, reserve 1/4 cup of peanuts, finely chop them, and fold into the finished butter.
  • Experiment with additional flavorings like cinnamon, vanilla extract, or cocoa powder for unique variations.
