Description
Learn how to make your own Homemade Vanilla Sugar, a delightful ingredient that adds a rich vanilla flavor to your favorite drinks and baked goods.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 whole vanilla bean (or 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste as an alternative)
Instructions
- Prepare the Vanilla Sugar: If using a vanilla bean, split it lengthwise with a sharp knife and scrape out the seeds. In a medium bowl, combine the granulated sugar and the vanilla seeds, mixing thoroughly until the seeds are evenly dispersed.
- Add the emptied vanilla bean pod to the sugar as well for extra flavor. Transfer the vanilla sugar to an airtight container or jar, burying the pod inside. Let it sit for at least one week before using to allow the flavors to fully infuse.
- Shake the jar occasionally to distribute the vanilla evenly. Use your homemade vanilla sugar in coffee, tea, baking, or as a finishing touch on muffins and cookies.
Notes
Notes:
- Vanilla sugar can be stored indefinitely in an airtight container. You can replenish the sugar as you use it — just top it up with more granulated sugar to keep the flavor going.
