Description

This Honey Garlic Chicken Breast recipe delivers tender, juicy chicken breasts coated in a flavorful, sticky honey garlic sauce. Quick and easy to prepare on the stovetop, it’s perfect for a weeknight dinner that feels both comforting and special. The combination of garlic, honey, soy sauce, and a touch of vinegar creates a delicious balance of sweet and savory flavors that complement the golden, pan-fried chicken perfectly.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 500g / 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour

Sauce

  • 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce, light or all purpose
  • 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Cut each chicken breast in half horizontally to make 4 thinner steaks. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Coat the chicken: Pour the flour into a shallow dish. Dredge each chicken piece in the flour evenly, shaking off any excess flour.
  3. Heat the skillet and melt butter: Heat a large skillet over high heat and melt most of the butter (reserve about 1 teaspoon for later use).
  4. Cook the chicken: Place the floured chicken pieces in the hot skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side for 1 minute.
  5. Adjust heat: Turn the heat down slightly to medium-high to prevent burning while allowing cooking to continue.
  6. Add garlic and butter: Push chicken slightly to make room in the pan. Add minced garlic and dot the reserved teaspoon of butter on top of the garlic. Stir gently once the butter melts, cooking the garlic briefly to release aroma.
  7. Add sauce ingredients: Pour in the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Stir or gently shake the pan to combine the ingredients and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  8. Simmer sauce: Let the sauce simmer for about 1 minute or until it slightly thickens, coating the chicken pieces well. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small splash of water and stir to loosen.
  9. Finish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat immediately to avoid overcooking. Plate the chicken breasts and drizzle the remaining sauce from the pan over the top. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute maple syrup for honey for a different sweetness profile.
  • Using light or all-purpose soy sauce keeps the sauce lighter in color and flavor balance.
  • Reserve some butter to add fresh flavor with garlic near the end of cooking.
  • If the sauce reduces too much and thickens, adding a bit of water helps maintain the right consistency.
  • Adjust seasoning after cooking if necessary.
