For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Cheese Layer:
- 1 container (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil or parsley, chopped
For Serving:
- Baguette slices, breadsticks, or crackers
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until browned. Drain excess grease. Stir in garlic, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer Dip: Spread half of the meat sauce in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish. Add spoonfuls of ricotta, followed by half of the mozzarella and Parmesan. Repeat layers. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until bubbly.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh herbs. Serve hot with bread, breadsticks, or crackers.
Notes
- You can use cottage cheese as a substitute for ricotta.
- Enhance the dip with sautéed spinach or mushrooms for added flavor.
- This dip can be prepared ahead and baked when ready to serve.
