  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Bake the Cakes: Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Assemble and Decorate: Frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides. Decorate with sprinkles or fruit if desired.
