Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich Base
- 1 crusty baguette or a hearty sourdough loaf
- 1–2 tablespoons butter (for toasting)
Spread
- 2–3 tablespoons garlic aioli (homemade or store-bought)
Fillings
- 6–8 thin slices roast turkey
- 2–3 leaves crisp lettuce, washed and sliced if large
- 1 medium juicy tomato, sliced
- 2–3 slices or about 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4–6 slices pickles (preferably dill or bread and butter)
Instructions
- Prep Your Ingredients: Wash and slice the lettuce and tomato. Prepare the roast turkey slices and shred or slice the cheddar cheese. If using garlic aioli, either prepare it fresh or remove from the refrigerator to bring it to room temperature.
- Toast the Bread: Lightly butter one side of each bread slice. Toast the buttered sides in a skillet over medium heat until golden and crisp. This process enhances the flavor of the bread and adds a satisfying crunch.
- Assemble Your Sandwich: Spread a generous amount of garlic aioli on the toasted bread slices. Layer the roast turkey evenly over the spread, then add the cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and pickle slices in that order.
- Final Touch and Serve: Firmly press the sandwich halves together to hold all the ingredients in place. Slice the sandwich diagonally or in your preferred style. Serve immediately while the sandwich is warm and fresh to enjoy the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can warm the turkey slices slightly before assembling.
- If you prefer, substitute cheddar with another cheese like Swiss or provolone.
- To make it vegetarian, omit the turkey and add more cheese and veggies.
- Using day-old bread slightly makes toasting easier and results in crispier texture.
- Store any leftover ingredients separately and assemble just before eating to prevent sogginess.
