Bread:
- 1 telera or bolillo roll, sliced in half
Spread:
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
Filling:
- 1/2 ripe avocado, sliced
- 4 ounces thinly sliced deli ham or cooked chicken
- 2 slices cooked bacon
- 2 slices ripe tomato
- 2–3 pickled jalapeños
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
- 2 slices Oaxaca or mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon refried beans (optional)
Others:
- Butter for toasting bread
Instructions
- Slice and Toast Bread: Slice the roll in half and lightly butter the cut sides. Toast the bread on a skillet or griddle until golden brown.
- Spread Mayonnaise and Mustard: Spread mayonnaise and mustard on each half.
- Layer Ingredients: On the bottom half, layer the refried beans if using, then add sliced ham or chicken, bacon, cheese, avocado, tomato slices, jalapeños, and shredded lettuce.
- Assemble and Serve: Cover with the top half of the roll. Press down gently, slice in half, and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can swap the meat for milanesa (breaded fried steak) or carnitas.
- Add more or less jalapeños to adjust the spice level.
- Serve with a squeeze of lime juice if desired.
